Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The former head of state was found guilty of orchestrating a military coup in the ninth month and given more than 27 years in jail, but he was staying under home detention pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the move to detain the elderly politician was a preventative measure after recent developments were revealed.

This involved attempting to break his tracking device and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could enable a possible escape.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Risks

In a filing authorising the custody, the magistrate said information from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his escape.

This, it said, would be assisted by the chaos caused by the demonstration called by his child.

His offspring, his son Flávio, who works as a senator, called for a gathering of his followers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday night.

The senator wrote on digital networks on last Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your homeland, or see it all from your mobile device there on your settee? I urge you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so backers could seek divine intervention for his health and for the restoration of democratic rule in our country."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Part of the magistrate's ruling was the possibility of Bolsonaro's move to foreign missions near the residence, considering that the probes revealed a record of organizing to seek refuge through a consular facility", a announcement said.

The judicial paperwork highlights that the US embassy in the national capital, Brasilia, is positioned around 13km from Bolsonaro's home.

International Reactions

Bolsonaro's legal woes have provoked anger from fellow right-wing populist American leader Trump, prompting him to implement a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

He is being held in a Federal Police station in Brasilia and will have a custody hearing on the next day.

Recent Judicial Appeals

It was only on the previous day that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Top Court to authorize him to serve his whole jail sentence under domestic detention, with digital surveillance.

They also petitioned that he be authorized to exit his dwelling for medical treatment, saying he demanded regular treatment for pulmonary infections and other ailments.

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was convicted of orchestrating a scheme aimed at retaining his authority after he failed to win the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

High Court judges said that he knew of a plan which included plans to assassinate Lula and his VP candidate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to imprison and murder the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been presiding over the former president's case.

The conspiracy was thwarted because it couldn't obtain the support of the armed forces officials. His successor was sworn in without issue on 1 January 2023.

But a week later, on the eighth of January, many his backers attacked and damaged official structures in the federal district, Brasília.

The police took action and around approximately 1,500 persons were arrested.

The justices found that the protesters had been incited by him whose strategy, they said, was for the Brazilian military to step in, restore order and reinstate his authority.

At the time, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the decades-long sentence extremely harsh.

He was also prohibited from seeking elected position until twenty-sixty - eight years later after the end of his sentence.

The one-time head of state called the trial a targeted investigation" and said it was aimed at blocking him running in the next presidential race.
